hot city orchestra is a reformation of a band, which was originally formed in 1998. at the age of 17, arno völker (einzelkind) and simon birkenfeld became friends and started making drum and bass music together. they toured all over germany with their record label and had residencies at robert johnson in offenbach and tanzhaus west in frankfurt. after gaining years of experience within the breakbeat scene, arno went on to become einzelkind with releases on playhouse, cocoon, white and his own imprints la peña, jax and pressure traxx as well as worldwide dj gigs. simon was still focusing on his breakbeat career for another year, making an album with a uk drum and bass legend, but it was never released. he stopped making music and started focusing on his career in pr and marketing, where he mostly worked on music and art projects. during this time, the long-time friends arno and simon came up with the idea to launch the blog-network-project www.disco-very. net now, 16 years later, after making first beats together, the boys are back! a tiny bit older, much wiser, more handsome and around 50 bpm slower.

at its very first start, the new label founded by conrad van orton proposes a vinyl of his own with two original tracks on the a side, november and captivity archives. and two great remixers such as vsk and the mysterious annuled user on the other. just as the needle starts to mark the passage, the classic four quarters give life to a beat that between one step and another compresses catapulting reality in a classic industrial scenario of mid-autumn where the clear sky gets marked by black and deep plots. a background noise accompanies the whole programming part of the drumming that gives off a relentless pace. on the a side captivity archives reconfirms the industrial nature of cvo with a look towards distant galaxies ..... with the needle still hot we turn around the record to the b side. here we find the vsk remix with a more ambient and crystal clear sound. to the original drum, vsk, choose an equally technical percussion. all home made. last but not least the contribution given by annulled user. trademark? techno! .. and there is nothing here to mess about with. 4/4 dry, hard which feel anger and rebellion desire. the kick, fairly present, is ripped apart by some demonic filters. the 5.30 min of annulled user are a reminiscence of the 90s.

breathtaking contemporary spiritual jazz from south africa ... when tumi mogorosi composed this suite for jazz musicians and opera vocalists he had never heard the previous successful attempts by donald byrd, max roach or mary lou williams to combine these seemingly unfriendly aesthetics. tumi, born in 1987 and already an accomplished drummer on the joburg scene, was at the time studying music at the tshwane university of pretoria where he became close friends with opera singers working on the same campus. so unlike some of his us peers tumis beliefs are not religious.

with their cinematic music and john carpenters cover albums, we wondered when a real soundtrack by zombie zombie is going to be out? well, here it is now , the two zombies cosmic neman and etienne jaumet finally sign their first film music for the first feature film from director , narimane mari, loubia hamra (bloody beans), to be released in spring 2014. and we found them there, where we do not expect, because it s not a horror movie, but a free movie, a journey of a group of children from a district of algiers during the war of algeria, who becomes aware of life and death.director narimane mari talks about her experience with zombie zombie and creation of the soundtrack for her movie:-i really wanted the music to be as blood flow of images and that is what it is. sharp, dull, full of strange noises, inner or surging, harmonious or disturbed by noise disorder, which allows to read beyond the visual narrative. we are in the bowels of childhood and it shakes us up when we let our-selves be takeover by the living: the profusion. i didn’t want to make a movie where psychology and reason rule and dominate until our senses are weakened, but a movie that we experience with the body and it is them who made it possible, this total immersion.

the last few years has seen a series of well received releases from rhythmic theory, the anonymous techno producer lurking in the shadows of the bristol music scene. *endless forms* is their second release for idle hands and follows on from where the previous ep *legacy of the lost* left off. the title track delves deeper into the sonic realms of classic jungle and comes up for air sounding like dub techno. a weighty bass line propels things along, whilst a sci-fi voice intones the title. this one is a sound system rocker. *tales of dystopia* brings to mind early nineties uk techno with its haunting synths, swung beats and deadly bass line. rhythmic theory is killing it at the moment, expect more to come.
